Serik Akhmetov appointed Prime Minister of Kazakhstan

Serik Akhmetov has been appointed the new Prime Minister of Kazakhstan and the head of state has already ratified a decree on his appointment.

As the post of the Prime Minister has become vacant and Karim Massimov has resigned, Nursultan Nazarbayev organized a meeting with the chairmen of three parliamentary factions, where he consulted on the candidacy for the post of prime minister.

-I would like to offer Serik Akhmetov as a candidate. Serik Nygmetovich is 54 years old. He is a metallurgical engineer. He was the Temirtau mayor, deputy Astana mayor and the deputy prime minister of Kazakhstan.

A native of the Karaganda region, Serik Akhmetov was the Temirtau mayor from November 2009. In January, 2012, he was appointed the deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan. Three factions of parliament unanimously chose Serik Akhmetov as a candidate for the post of the Prime Minister.

-He is in touch with the administration and it will provide succession and transfer of power. I believe that this appointment will allow us to prepare for the new wave of the crisis which is approaching.

According to the constitution, the new Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov should present the head of state with the composition of the new government.
