Astana “Green Bridge” Initiative has huge potential, Alexandre Keltchewsky, Head of OSCE Center in Astana said at a final meeting on preparation of “Green Bridge” Partnership Program on Wednesday in Astana.

“The Astana initiative covers all sorts of problems of the modern world. They are promotion of green growth, low-carbon development, climate change, biodiversity, sustainable development, environmental safety and other topics. However, the initiative is largely aimed at preventing adverse events, than eliminating the environmental damage that has already taken place,” notes Keltchewsky.

The Astana “Green Bridge” Initiative was proposed by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the III Astana Economic Forum. It was backed at the 6th Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development in Asia and the Pacific.

The Partnership Program will be discussed during the seventh “Environment for Europe” Ministerial Conference which is planned for September 2011 in Astana. Then it is planned to present a draft program at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Brazil in 2012.
