On 27 and 29 January 2011 in Davos, Switzerland The Cocktail and Lunch Reception were hosted by the CEO of Kazakhstan’s National Welfare Fund “Samruk –Kazyna” Mr Kairat Kelimbetov and Mr Arur Krivov on behalf of Kazakh-British Chamber of Commerce to coincide with the World Economic Forum.

On the 19th of October the Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Kairat Nematovich Kelimbetov, delivered a lecture at the London Business School on the topic: “The resource curse, the financial crisis and Kazakhstan’s long-term strategy”. Organised by the Kazakh–British Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with London Business School’s Energy Club, the event was attended by Kazakh and international students from top UK Universities including the LBS, Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick, UCL, Imperial College, King’s College, CITI, and others.Read more

Astana elected to host Expo 2017
In a secret ballot, the representatives of 161 member States of the International Exhibitions Bureau voted to select Astana as the host of international specialized exhibition EXPO-2017. “Application of Astana was supported by 103 member countries of the International Exhibitions Bureau, “no” vote – 44″, bid committee EXPO-2017 Astana said in a Twitter-account. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev made a video message to the participants of the 152 th General Assembly of the International Exhibitions Bureau in an hour before the final vote to host the exhibition EXPO-2017.Read more

Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus Agree On Economic Union
Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan have agreed to create a body regulating their trade and economies that could eventually become a Eurasian economic union. The presidents of the three former Soviet republics — which have recently set up a common customs union that allows a free movement of labor and goods between the countries — signed a declaration in the Kremlin targeting a full “Eurasian economic union” by 2015. Russia’s Dmitry Medvedev, Belarus’s Alyaksandr Lukashenka, and Nursultan Nazarbaev of Kazakhstan also signed an accord on the creation of a super-national executive body to oversee tighter economic integration.Read more

David Cameron’s historic visit to Kazakhstan
David Cameron became the first serving prime minister to visit Kazakhstan as he began a visit to the mineral-rich country with hopes of boosting British trade. Discussions with president Nursultan Nazarbayev are set to focus on trade and using Kazakhstan as an exit route for British equipment as combat forces withdraw from Afghanistan. Cameron follows in the footsteps of former prime minister Tony Blair who has played a key role in helping Kazakhstan’s development since leaving office. Kazakhstan’s foreign minister Erlan Idrissov said: “We are very honoured and privileged to have such attention on the part of two prime ministers (towards) Kazakhstan – Tony Blair and David Cameron.”Read more

Kazakhstan’s business climate has improved dramatically in 2011, climbing 11 places in the World Bank’s Doing Business rankings to enter the top 50 world economies for the first time.Read more
The World Bank’s Doing Business Report 2012, released today, showed that Kazakhstan has moved up 11 places to 47, with strong progress in protecting investors and paying taxes. The success continues a steady trend for Kazakhstan, the world’s fastest reformer in last year’s rankings, when it rose 15 places to 58.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev has ordered to rearm the Kazakh army. "We need to intensify the modernization and rearming of our military forces. The military industry should produce more equipment and goods not only for the army but also for the police and special services,” the president is quoted as saying at a Thursday meeting at the Kazakh Defense Ministry in a press release of his press office.

The Russian airline Aeroflot will resume flights to Kazakhstan after a few years’ break, the company says in a press release. “The airline is launching a regular flight between Moscow and Karaganda from March 10,” the press release says.

All disputes arising from the draft treaty on the creation of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) should be resolved, said Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev. “I have carefully read all the documents [relating to the creation of the EEU] and have come to a conclusion that our experts have done a great job. I hope that we will be able to reach consensus on all moot points,” Nazarbayev said at a Wednesday meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Moscow.
